Who and What is the OCA?
Provides leadership to cattlemen from all
sectors of the industry
Formed in 1963 as the “Ontario Beef
Improvement Association”
In 1976, the name changed to Ontario
Cattlemen’s Association to reflect its
increasingly important role as a commodity
lobby organization
Who and What is the OCA?
Under the Beef Cattle Marketing Act, a
compulsory check-off of $2.25 per head sold
by cattle producers is payable to the OCA to
fund its programs and activities
Any person who has paid an OCA license
fee (check-off) deduction is a member of the
OCA and the affiliated county or district
branch in which he/she resides
Who and What is the OCA?
Approximately 31% of check-off is
contributed to the beef advertising programs
coordinated by the Beef Information Center
The balance provides members with such
services as: market information and analysis;
production and marketing research; Ontario
Beef magazine; county promotional support;
lobbying on national and provincial issues
